Tina Opie, an associate professor at Babson College who studies diversity, inclusion, and equity, and who has worked with companies on diversity issues, says, in a recent article in Bloomberg Businesweek entitled The Right Approach to Outreach in a Time of Social Upheaval, “You absolutely should reach out.” Not doing so can leave Black employees feeling isolated. Opie compares it to being there for someone who’s suffered a death in the family.
