The trailblazers in human, academic, scientific and religious freedom have always been in the minority… It will take such a small committed minority to work unrelentingly to win the uncommitted majority. Such a group may transform America’s greatest dilemma into her most glorious opportunity.
Background
Kimani C. Toussaint, Jr. is an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering, and an affiliate faculty in the Departments of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Bioengineering, as well as the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He holds a PhD and MS in electrical engineering from Boston University and a BA in African-American studies from the University of Pennsylvania.
Interests
Toussaint directs the laboratory for Photonics Research of Bio/nano Environments (PROBE Lab) at UIUC, an interdisciplinary research group which focuses on developing advanced optical techniques for both quantitatively imaging collagen-based biological structures, and investigating the optical properties of plasmonic nanostructures for light-driven control of matter.
