Background

Andra Gillespie is an associate professor of political science at Emory University. She earned her BA in government & foreign affairs and African American studies from the University of Virginia. She went on to earn an MA in African-American studies and an MPhil in political science from Yale University, where she also earned her doctorate in 2005.

Interests

Her research focuses on generational conflict among African American political elites. She examines political participation and leadership, drawing on her prior work as an analyst for Democratic pollster Mark Mellman.
