Bio

Daniel Byrd is a Professor of Strategic Management at the Keck Graduate Institute (KGI). His research interests include bioscience business strategy and managing strategic networks (social network analysis and diffusion of innovations).

Dr. Byrd holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University, an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a PhD in Strategy from University of Michigan. The title of his dissertation was “Bankers on the Board and the Debt Ratio of Firms.”

He has several years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in a variety of functions: strategy, manufacturing, human resources, and finance.

His career has been marked by experience in two distinct domains: business school academia and the pharmaceutical industry.

In 2007, Dr. Byrd joined the faculty of KGI, which he believes provides him with “a unique opportunity to integrate these past experiences and pursue these two passions.” KGI honored him as a 2009 First-Year Class Favorite Faculty.

In addition, Dr. Byrd served as Senior Advisor to the Provost at University of Laverne, where he was visiting faculty for 2012 in the Department of Business Management and Leadership. He has also held teaching posts at Stanford University and Emory University.

As a 2004-2005 MLK Visiting Professor at MIT, Dr. Byrd was hosted by the Sloan School of Management.
