47th Annual MLK Leadership Award

MIT PRIMES is a free, year-long after-school research program serving high school students who live within driving distance from Boston, sponsored by the MIT Department of Mathematics. Program participants work with MIT researchers on exciting unsolved problems in mathematics, computer science, and computational biology. 

The American Mathematical Society (AMS) selected the MIT Department of Mathematics was selected for the 2020 Award for Exemplary Program or Achievement in a Mathematics Department. The award, given annually to “a department that has distinguished itself by undertaking an unusual or particularly effective program of value to the mathematics community, internally or in relation to the rest of society,” honors the PRIMES program. PRIMES also recently received an AMS Epsilon grant, for rigorous summer programs for mathematically talented youth.
